Life Transitions

Picture
Change will always be part of your life, for as long as you are here on this earth:
• From the birth of a child to the passing of a parent
• From celebrating a new job to dealing with job loss — or settling into retirement
• From the romance of finding yourself in a new marriage to the heartbreak of dealing with divorce

Perhaps you are embarking on a new life phase involving  sobriety, entering menopause or adulthood, going away to college, empty nesting, leaving a religious affiliation, exploring your sexual identity and orientation, sharing child custody, embarking upon an adoption.

Sometimes we simply find ourselves unprepared for the emotional upheaval and stress that such transitions can cause in our lives. We may react to these challenges with fatigue, depression, anxiety.

Do you need help?
Personal therapy can provide you the extra support and guidance you need to stay mentally, emotionally and physically healthy as you adjust to your new situation.

Are you wondering if you could use extra support and guidance through a difficult period of life transition?
Try asking yourself these questions: (Three or more  “yes” answers to questions like these may indicate that you would benefit from therapy.)

  • Do I feel overwhelmed by my emotions?
  • Do I feel stuck?
  • Am I losing sleep, or sleeping too much?
  • Have I recently gained or lost weight without conscious effort?
  • Has my consumption of alcohol increased?
  • Do I need sleeping pills to fall or stay asleep?
  • Do I ruminate over and over again on the same worry or problem?
  • Have I grown  emotionally / socially isolated?
  • Am I more irritable and impatient with others and myself?
  • Do I often feel depressed?
Three or more  “yes” answers to questions like these may indicate that you would benefit from therapy.

Moving Forward
Life transitions—no matter how difficult—can be opportunities to understand yourself more deeply, to develop inner resilience, and to reach out to others.

Pilar knows what she is doing. She is highly educated, experienced and professional. Listens intently and provides direct guidance. I have wasted my time with mediocre "in network providers" in the past, every session with Pilar yielded benefits. I felt that we were in a "partnership" to help me get better. When I first went to Pilar, I was in terrible emotional pain, due to the break-up of a long-term marriage. I knew I was abusing alcohol but didn't feel I could cope without it. Pilar accepted this and helped me with my immediate concerns, which were real and intense, and she was available to help me address the alcohol problem when I was ready.

Pilar encouraged me to stand up for myself in ways I never thought I could. Her belief in my abilities and her example as a strong, vibrant woman helped me grow and change.
