Couples Therapy

Picture
Is your relationship causing you unhappiness?
Frequently, distress within our committed relationship can cause symptoms of deep emotional pain, loneliness, anxiety, and depression. It is almost impossible to be “our best selves” when our primary relationship is filled with turbulence and despair.

Primary relationship problems affect every aspect of life:
• Ability to concentrate and perform at work
• Ability to parent and attend to our children’s needs
• Ability to take care of our physical and emotional health, and feel good about ourselves

It takes two
Couples counseling begins with two interested and committed parties. It never works when one in the couple is being dragged into the counseling arena.

Here are a few questions to help you decide if you and your partner are ready for couples therapy:
  1. Are you willing to take responsibility for your part in the relationship struggle?
  2. If necessary, are you willing to let go of other activities that may conflict with scheduling an appointment for couple’s therapy?
  3. Are you willing to postpone other purchases if you find you must choose between buying something material vs. paying for couples therapy?
  4. Are you open to doing things differently in your relationship?

Talk it over
Discuss these questions with your partner. Talking will help you both decide if you are ready to open yourselves up to the challenges and changes that couples therapy requires. By having this discussion, you have already taken your first step.  Next, you must determine if you are both ready to commit to couples therapy. Please feel free to contact me when you feel ready to take this important next step.
